Gypsy Women Spring Fling in the Sandhills of NCFayetteville NC, Motorcycle Event Preview February 4, 2007 Bikers USA The Gypsy Women Spring Fling is considered an annual favorite by the local bikers from all around the Fayetteville, NC and Sandhills area. The spring fling has become a tradition to look forward to. Holly, Trent, and the other Gypsy Women at Legends Pub always treat bikers, veterans, and soldiers from Fort Bragg right. The friendly Fayetteville bikers know how to party. The spring fling is one of a half dozen terrific events held at Legends Pub, each year, during the motorcycle season. Legends Pub is located at 4624 Bragg Blvd, Fayetteville NC. See Legends Pub on a map. This year, the Gypsy Women Spring Fling will be held at the same time as Outer Banks Bike Week, the NC State HOG Rally, and several other good North Carolina Motorcycle Events. In years past, there have been plenty of good motorcycle events held on the same weekend, but this does not take away from the fun, or the crowds that gather at Legends Pub. There has often been a motorcycle rally out west, in the Smoky Mountains. It appears that many NC riders will be heading to Kitty Hawk this year, which is about 4 hours north and sideways from Fayetteville. | Compared to the Outer Banks, Fayetteville is much easier to get to, from almost everywhere in North Carolina. The Outer Banks is easy to get to from Virginia, but in North Carolina the highways are not developed, so there is no clear shot to the Outer Banks from Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, and Fayetteville. The ride to Fayetteville from Raleigh is nice, as is the ride from Charlotte. I have lived in all 3 cities. The only thing missing is the beach, but there’s plenty or sand in the Sandhills! Many NC bikers think the other major events are terrific, and we appreciate it when any NC motorcycle events get some major sponsors and backing. Some riders have mentioned the large events seem sterile due to dealer commercialism. That is not my opinion, but it’s occasionally the word on the street. Overall, NC Bikers would love more support for large events, but it appears this will not happen until we depose the over-regulatory legislators who believe the motorcycle helmet lobby. Years ago, Fayetteville, in Cumberland County, had one of the best, most dedicated NC CBA/ABATE chapters in the state. MRO’s would love to see them engage in biker rights activities again. Don’t expect a huge field full of motorcycles or a tent city. Don’t expect an appearance by a custom bike builder who is so busy making celebrity appearances that someone else is building choppers back at the shop. Don’t expect a custom chopper build-off and big prize money. Don’t expect Foghat, the Outlaws, Kidd Rock, or Pink Floyd to take the stage. They are all certainly welcome, and would quickly be made to feel at home. (I’d let Eric Clapton sit in with me for a guitar jam anytime!) I don’t know what all the final plans are this year, but I’ve been to the Gypsy Women Spring Fling enough times, and Legends Pub is like home to me, so I can tell you, here’s what you can expect: Do expect a good time! Do expect lots of friendly folks, on enough bikes to fill the parking lot. Do expect lots of old school bikers in the bar area, pool table area, and at the picnic tables at one of the last remaining truly biker-friendly places - the Gypsy Women give back to the biker community. Do expect the Gypsy Women to get plenty of volunteers to help make this a nicely organized party. Do expect a ride-in bike show / contest, with prizes in many categories. Do expect lots of good food, and perhaps an auction and poker run to some other truly fine biker-friendly places in Fayetteville, or Hope Mills, or Southern Pines. Much of the proceeds from the “side events” are often given to a biker family in dire need. Speaking of auction, if anyone wants to contribute something to be auctioned or raffled for a good cause, I’m sure they’ll be glad to mention your generosity and kindness, so please call the Gypsy Women at 910-867-2364 Tell them Janice sent you! |
