So far, we have a Freedom Ride then we will Circle the Legislature building while some delegates bring in thousands of signed petitions to tell the legislators to repeal the helmet law so that we can decide for ourselves. We will also have bikers up from South Carolina who have created a fun concept called a Scavenger Hunt. Bikers will be making a showing to let legislators know we vote and should be heard. Regardless of what the newspapers and tv news told you, the red light exception bill passed last year, but is only a defense if you get ticketed, and there are police departments planning to ticket you. We should also have the right to decide important matters, such as whether or not to wear a helmet, and if so, what type of helmet. The fed and state governments are going crazy with all kinds of laws. In Mississippi the State actually has a bill to not allow restaurants to serve obese people. In Virginia, a legislator has introduced a bill to stop people from hooking something that looks like testicles to their trailer hitch. NC Street Gang Act would have anyone that participates in some poker runs sent to jail. Government that wants to control every aspect of our lives must stop. My line in the sand is when the government forces helmets onto our heads. BOLT Action information - Has information about the new helmet law, why we oppose it, and what we plan to do about it. Please print out some Helmet Repeal Petitition forms . We also have the petition in our files area. Please bring them around to different places with you and get them signed. Once you've filled up a few forms with signatures, please send them to the address for Full Throttle, found at the bottom of the petition form. The government does not approve helmets, and has no list of approved helmets. The only helmets by make and model one can find at the DOT and NHTSA that are deemed either compliant or not compliant are the non-compliant ones found at the recalls database. With over 1/2 million recalled helmets not accounted for, the government program is very poorly managed. The police are not able to conduct roadside compliance testing according to the standard. Consumers are not able to test the helmets for themselves, so without a list, there is no way to ensure compliance with certainty. As such, the NC police should not be ticketing the consumer! |
