| | | | It’s not Daytona or Myrtle. You might enjoy this slower paced bike rally weekend. Good partying can be found in various places. A nice laid back rally is always a good time if you spend it with good people. |
 | | | The Outer Banks is like it’s own little world. It’s a place where memories will last a lifetime. |

 | | | Past: Here’s a look at the schedule from the 2005 rally. As you can see, there were plenty of attractions and events happening on Friday and Saturday. Unlike some major motorcycle rallies and bikefests, it’s a time when there is not just one particular convention center. Many of the businesses on the Outer Banks are ready to welcome you and have their own organizing committees to make sure you have a great time and come back again and again. |
 | | | OUTER BANKS BIKE WEEK - Event Schedule for 2005
Thursday 4/7, 2005 the first of more than 100 Outer Banks Bike Week vendors are expected to set up vendor row at milepost 4.5, Sunburns’ Sports Bar, in Kitty Hawk. Thursday evening there is a welcome party at Port O’Call Restaurant.
This is not your typical bike week but it appears to have the makings of a great weekend. Event promoters say the attendance will be a few thousand. Well, Sturgis started with 9 racers and no more than a few dozen people in the stands. Just don’t expect anything like Myrtle or Daytona and you might find it a very enjoyable time.
On Friday, there will be a Bike Show at Nags Head Harley-Davidson sponsored by the Red Knights, NC Chapter IV. The Red Knights MC is an national MC for firefighters and social members - see motorcycle clubs. Registration is 11:30am - 1pm. Live Band tba at vendor row from 3pm - 6pm. At the Quagmires, the Raucus Brothers are performing. Your best bet may be across Currituck Sound, at Barrys’ Walnut Island, Grandy. From the Outer Banks, cross the Wright Bros Memorial Bridge, Rte 158. In Grandy, take a right at Walnut Island Blvd. Check Barrys’ Outer Banks Bike Rally for some of the better events of the weekend. (psst...Hey Barry, I just found out you delinked me! Please fix it and I’ll get you back happening. In the meantime, Barry’s site is outerbanksbikerally .com. I’m sure it was probably something I said about? Barry’s cool. He works North Carolina Biker Rights issues. Anyone who does that is good people in my book. We’ve got some terrific people in NC who spend a lot of their life trying to get NC legislators to represent us fairly for our tax dollars. Reminder to self: send email to Barry). On Saturday, go back over the bridge to Walnut Island and start your day with breakfast at Barrys. Once there, you might want to stick around. Treasure Hunt registration is 11-2. Biker rodeo is 10:30 - 1. Nags Head H-D is having a Poker Run at 1pm. Registration starts at 11am. After the poker run there will be a live band at vendor row at 3:30. Outer Banks Custom Cycle is having a pig pickin’ with the local radio station playing classic rock. Saturday night, Barrys’ has a live band at 8pm. Outer Banks Brewing Station plans a live band at 10pm. Vertigo Tatoo is promoting 3 Days of Mayhem. Tattoo contest, live music, food, vendors, antique motorcycle show, old school chopper show, bikini bike wash and more. That sounds a bit more like it.
Speaking of partying hard - I don’t know if it’s true, but according to the local surf shop, DARE county has the largest number of DWI’s per capita in the country, and the locals will be looking. If you party too hardy, sober up before riding on the scoot. Ride safe and sober.
On Sunday, at the Outer Banks Bike Week, there will be a Wright Bros Memorial Parade. Parade line-up at 8am at Nags Head H-D. Parade starts at 9am. Goodbye parties in the afternoon include a teenie weenie bikini contest. Back at Barrys’ they will be christening the Dottie Ann as flagship of the Pirates of Currituck at 1pm.
Camping? There is plenty of camping but this does not appear to be part of any Outer Banks Bike Week promotions. There are commercial campgrounds, and there is also tenting at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore for just $20 per day. (252) 473-2111. |
