Try The Big Rev. Dear Bikers USA The City of Eau Claire is fighting their school board not to close a wonderful elementary school, fire 100+ teachers or eliminate sports programs at our middle schools. Our Senator, Kathleen Vinehout, stated we need to show up in the thousands and be really loud. Can you ask if any Chippewa Valley bikers would show up May 7, 2007, 7pm, at the School Administrative Building, 500 Main Street, Eau Claire, WI to run their cycles very loud in protest of what we are fighting? Please help save our teachers, students and schools. Eau Claire Dear Eau Claire, I feel badly for the teachers, students, and taxpayers. A good school is a terrible thing to waste. Over 100 teachers out of a job can be devastating to an economy, not to mention their lives. If the school board is acting in good faith, with no ulterior motive other than to serve to the best of their abilities, I feel for them as well, because public service is not easy. However, they should be responsive to you! If they aren’t, you should demand, and if they still aren’t, you should protest. Please use this as an opportunity to tell the next generation about the importance of their participation in civic affairs. It’s important we all actively participate, because apathy breeds self-interest, increasing the gap between those in power and those whose interests get trampled on. When all other efforts are failing, responsible protest is a good thing. If you are not being heard, you can always try The Big Rev. The Big Rev is a brief (about 15 seconds), rev’ing of engines and can include automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and chain saws. I know there are a lot of chain saws in Wisconsin. Candlelight vigils are okay, but The Big Rev is much louder, and more fun. If the rev is brief, law enforcement might respect your restraint and not issue citations for disturbing the peace. Regardless of who you are, and where you stand on an issue, you should be provided equal opportunity to be heard. Don’t let it go on much longer than 15 seconds lest it be an undignified big tantrum or big engine repair bill. Believe it or not, some people have no idea on how to rev an engine properly, and in this litigious age, you may need to issue disclaimers, so you may be wise to say something like not responsible for damages. I know, it should go without saying, but that’s how everything is becoming. I’ll be glad to post this for you. My best to you and all Eau Claire. Bikers USA
Disclaimer: Chain saws should always be operated according to manufacturers instructions and should not be operated in a crowd of people. Check you local statues to see if there is a “cut-off” time and any other ordinances. When peacefully protesting with chainsaws, position away from crowds and in places where the sound is likely to carry or echo. Do not operate chainsaws while riding motorcycles (I know it’s fun, but you should leave it up to the professionals, and don’t get caught doing it!) | | | | 5/18-19/2007 Wausau, WI Firefighters Ride for MDA 4th Annual motorcycle ride Over 875 bikes in 2006. $20 per person, food, entertainment, drinks and door prizes.
