LaCrosse Wisconsin December 22, 2006 Excerpt about the new S&S X-Wedge Engine from a December 22 Press Release which announced a new S&S X-Wedge website. The X-Wedge is a 56-degree, three-cam, closed-loop fuel-injected, air-cooled v-twin. It is the first all-new engine design from S&S Cycle and was recently unveiled to the motorcycle industry in an eight-page article in the January 2007 issue of Cycle World Magazine. This all-new engine design features three belt driven cams—two exhaust, one common intake—S&S closed-loop fuel injection, five studs per cylinder, plain bearings, wedge-shaped combustion chambers, automotive-style rockers, one-piece forged crank, and overhead valves. Bore sizes range from 4 1/8” to 4 1/2” and stroke can go from 4 1/8” to 4 3/8”, offering displacement of 110 cubic inches to 139 cubic inches. The X-Wedge was designed by a small group of S&S Product Development Team members to assure the motorcycle industry that an air-cooled, v-twin engine would be available as EPA laws tightened up. The X-Wedge will currently pass 2008 ARB and 2010 EPA standards. “Since the X-Wedge feature story in Cycle World, we have received a demand for more information,” said S&S president, Brett Smith. “Even though the Cycle World article was comprehensive, there will be new bits of information we’ll be able to provide as development progresses. We’re also finding out what the questions are regarding the X-Wedge with the information that was published in Cycle World.” Smith went on to say, “The X-Wedge.com site is going to provide updated information as it becomes available and we hope it will answer any the questions people may have.” Information about the engine and the upcoming Project X Tour, featuring bikes built by Big Dog Motorcycles, Bourget’s Bike Works, Edmondson Custom Built, Cory Ness, and Rucker Performance can be found at the new website, www.x-wedge.com. All five bikes built with the X-Wedge will be featured in 2007 issues of Paisano Publications V-Twin Magazine.
